Andy Warhol is a celebrity whose charisma and media presence made him a leading figure in the visual art movement known as “Pop Art.” He is famous throughout the world for his far-out paintings, music and films. The “Pope of Pop” started his career as a commercial illustrator, which gave him instant credibility in the industry. Unfortunately, getting respect from the art community was not so simple. He joined the Pop Art movement criticizing mass consumption and coined the phrase “15 minutes of fame” to speak out against the fleeting nature of stardom. His Campbell Soup silkscreens and celebrity portraits made him an icon of the 20th century American avant-garde.
