American singer and actor
His unique style, influenced by a host of musical genres (blues, gospel music, etc.) had a frontier-breaking impact and turned him into the idol of the younger generations. As his repertory grew, so did his popularity. He recorded a hundred and forty albums, accumulated awards, and caused riots everywhere he travelled. He was also a movie actor and starred in over 30 films. He died in 1977.
