Born on October 20th, 1963
Astronaut from Quebec (Canada)
The astronaut Julie Payette works mainly with NASA. In 1999, she was part of the STS-96 mission, on the Discovery space shuttle. Before taking part in that 10-day mission, she had been in training for six years... learning how to fly a fighter plane, to dive with a cylinder of oxygen, and to survive in the forest. Nothing more than that!
This perfectionist is also a triathlon specialist, a pianist, a soprano, and she speaks five languages, including Russian, which allows her to communicate with her astronaut crewmates!
