Louis Armstrong

August 4th, 1901 - July 6th, 1971

American jazz musician and trumpet player

Nicknamed Satchmo, short for "satchel mouth", a mouth marked by his constant use of the trumpet, Louis Armstrong is deemed to have been the world's greatest jazz ambassador. He was the most influential black jazzman and trumpeter ever.

It was thanks to his voice that scat signing became popular, inspiring two other major singers, Billy Holiday and Frank Sinatra.

Thanks to his skills, the trumpet became a jazz solo instrument.
