Maurice “The Rocket” Richard played right-wing for the Canadiens de Montréal and helped the team win eight Stanley Cups. A member of the National Hockey League from 1942 to 1960, he was the first player ever to score 50 goals in 50 games in a single season. He was also the first player to score 500 goals in the NHL. “The Rocket” was a man with strong opinions and helped write newspaper articles urging NHL leaders to stop discriminating against French-speaking players.
