The daughter of King George VI and the great-great granddaughter of Queen Victoria, Queen Elizabeth II acceded to the British throne on February 6, 1952, and has now been reigning for 60 years. Her role is that of the representative of the United Kingdom, both at national and international levels. She has weekly discussions with the Prime Minister on matters of importance and gives him her advice. She has known 12 Prime Ministers, including Winston Churchill, Margaret Thatcher, and Tony Blair.
She has three children, including Prince Charles, and eight grandchildren, amongst whom are Prince William and Prince Harry.
