Born on January 16th, 1942
Manager from Quebec (Canada)
Quebec-born René Angélil began his musical career in the Sixties with the pop rock group Les Baronets, whose success lay in the fact that it sang French versions of Beatles' songs.
After the group broke up, Angélil became a manager. His first client was Ginette Reno who, despite his success in managing her career, broke off their contract. For a while he considered leaving his profession. However, in 1981 he discovered Céline Dion, thanks to a demo he received in which she was singing Ce n'était qu'un rêve. Overwhelmed, he decided to focus solely on her career, and on December 17, 1994, he entered on his third marriage, wedding the singer at the Notre-Dame Basilica of Montréal. They have had three children together.
As of 1999, he also handled the career of Garou, who later set up his own company with a view to managing both his artistic and his business activities.
René Angélil is also an experienced poker player, who qualified for the 2005 World Series of Poker Tournament of Champions.
In 2011, it was announced that he would be once again the Director of the Quebec Star Académie.
