Tom Hanks

Born on July 9th, 1956

American actor, director and producer

He made his name with the films Splash and Big, before becoming fully established, thanks to Philadelphia and Forrest Gump, each of which won him an Oscar for Best Actor, in 1994 and 1995. Practically all his movies since then have been extremely successful, amongst them Apollo 13, Saving Private Ryan, and The Green Mile. He has often been compared to James Stewart, and his talents have allowed him to become one of the acting mascots of directors such as Steven Spielberg, Robert Zemeckis and Ron Howard. Tom Hanks, who is as much at ease in comedies as in drama, is often referred to as the American viewers' preferred actor. The films in which he has starred have raised close to $4 billion at the US box office, which makes him the most financially productive actor in cinema history. And yet, Tom Hanks is far from being purely career-minded. He has four children and regularly takes sabbatical years off in order to spend time with his family.
