Born on February 18th, 1933
Japanese experimental artist, musician, singer, songwriter, author and film director
Yoko Ono remains in the collective imagination as the Beatle creator's muse, and the reason for the break-up of the group.
But before she became the wife of John Lennon––whom she met on the occasion of her first London exhibition––Yoko Ono was first and foremost an experimental artist, a forefront jack of all trades, influenced by the Fluxus movement and, more specifically, by John Cage. She has brought out 25 albums and produced some sixty or so films.Along with John Lennon, she made use of the couple's popularity to militate for world peace and for women's rights, work that she still pursues.
